MY SHOWCASE

Welcome to my showcase, where I invite you to explore my journey through my master's program. Throughout this experience, I have honed my skills in problem-solving, communication, and creativity each playing a vital role in my development. Join as I highlight the projects and milestones that reflect my growth and dedication in these key areas. Thank you for taking the time to view my progress!

COMMUNICATION

Communication

During my time working with college students in the residence halls, I found communication to be the most important skill for not only me and my student staff members but for my students. Communication through technology and in face-to-face situations was a big focus for me during most of my work in the MAET program.

In these projects I showcase my ability to create a video presentation, my passion for researching learning theories, and my ability to relate and empathize with students.

21st Century Learning

In this video, I delve into the concept of 21st Century, discuss its importance in my life, and how I actively apply these principles in my everyday activities, focusing on enhancing my communication and collaboration skills. I am demonstrating my ability to create an engaging presentation and doing a video/screen cast.

Social Learning Theory

Social Learning Theory is something that stood out to me during my research—every day I watched my students interact with each other and Social Learning Theory made me think about how it impacted the decisions they made. During my research, I discussed how much we learn from communication with others around us, including my own experience in college in a blog post. I demonstrate my ability to research and create infographics to support my theories and make them easier to understand.

Affinity Spaces

Affinity spaces have been crucial to my personal and professional development. Specifically during the pandemic using online affinity spaces saved me. I explained my experiences through a blog post where I talked about what they are and specifically how they helped me. This also demonstrates how important communication has been for me, in person and online. I demonstrate my ability to be vulnerable and connect with an audience via a blog post.

Problems

PROBLEM-SOLVING

In higher education, there are always student issues that require assistance in finding solutions. My experiences in crisis response significantly influenced my approach to problem-solving.

Wicked Problems

In the Wicked Problems project, I researched and discussed how to get students more comfortable with face-to-face communication in a digital world. I did several things to research my problem like interviewing students, giving a survey to staff members at my institution, and using my own experiences, which are all highlighted in the video to the right. This highlights my ability to create an engaging presentation, create a screen cast, and research.

Cooking with TPACK

In this artifact, I explore the theories of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) in a fun problem-solving way. I demonstrate not only my video editing, but my problem-solving and ability to process the TPACK content. I show that I am not afraid to try something new, and that I believe in making mistakes to learn from them.

Creativity

CREATIVITY

Creativity is essential in my role, as it helps capture students' interest and makes learning more engaging and enjoyable. Here, you'll find presentations that showcase my innovative approach to teaching college students as well as showcasing my Graphic Design background.

Leveling Up Learning

While trying to make training interested for 18 college students, I decided to try to make a Choose Your Adventure PowerPoint presentation. Giving the same information every semester to our student leaders can be a daunting task and getting interest is always one of my top priorities. I talk about the process in my blog, and demonstrate my creative ability. This artifact demonstrates my ability to think outside the box and engage my students.

Speedfriending Infographic by Kyra DeLoach

Speed Friending

As I shared above, communication is important in everything I do.  I always try to think about how I can get creative to get my students interested in what we are doing and how to get them to 'buy-in' to whatever out of the box idea I have. One way I did this, was to create a speed-friending event based on research of communication and my students interests. This demonstrates my ability to get creative with my students as well as my creative designing of an infographic and research.

Creative Reflection

In this mock newspaper, I demonstrate not only my design skills but my ability to think outside the box. Writing is something I have been improving on, but not something I typically like to do. That being said, when asked to write a reflection about what I had learned in a course I decided to make something not only more fun for me to make, but more fun for my professor to interact with and grade while still demonstrating my progress.

Fun fact: I have worked for two newspapers!
