About Kyra

As a dedicated Advisor and Educator, I am passionate about guiding students through their academic journeys, fostering their growth, and helping them overcome personal and academic challenges. Currently, I serve as an Academic Advisor at Southwestern Michigan College, where I assist students with course selection, degree planning, and goal-setting, empowering them to achieve success. I am committed to providing tailored advising services by leveraging technology and working collaboratively with faculty and staff to address students' individual needs.
 

Previously, I held roles in Residence Life as a Residence Hall Manager and Resident Assistant, where I honed my skills in student support, leadership, and team management. My experience includes training and supervising Resident Assistants, creating community-building events, and addressing student concerns with empathy and respect. These roles strengthened my ability to balance administrative tasks with student engagement, shaping my holistic approach to student services.

I hold a Master’s degree in Educational Technology from Michigan State University (expected December 2024) and a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Indiana University South Bend, with additional expertise in graphic design. My background in design and layout management has allowed me to contribute to various student and campus events, enhancing engagement through creative and informative visual content.

In my current role, I also use several programs and software to assist my students from the beginning to the very end of their educational journey such as Argos, Banner, DegreeWorks, Workflow, and Salesforce. My ability to learn and teach the most effective ways to use a new program has allowed me to catch on quickly and be able to help not only students but my coworkers and faculty.
 

My mission is to create a supportive and enriching environment for students, where they can thrive academically, personally, and socially. I look forward to connecting with others who are passionate about education, student development, and innovative solutions in the academic advising field.
