Summer 2023
Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Mary Wever
This was my first semester in the MAET program. I was nervous to get started on my Master's Degree. My professor had a very impressive background and I was so excited to work with her. I was introduced to Creations in this course, and I really pushed myself to learn virtually. I remember feeling nervous about writing but really got the hang of things in this course. I would reccommend this course as a great first semester option to fully immerse yourself in the MAET program.
Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
Debbie McHorney-Enokian
This course was all about the issues of practice and looked at questions and how to solve them. We read the book 'A More Beautiful Question' by Warren Berger which I would highly recommend. This was also the class we worked on our Wicked Problems Project and it fully challenged me as someone who doesn't work in a traditional teaching setting. This course made me take a look into each area of my practice that I felt wasn't serving me, my students, or both of us and restructure things and problem solve.
Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings
Zach Rondot
This was one of my favorite courses during my MAET program. We learned all about learning theories and the professionals who founded them and even created our own theory of learning. This course was set up in a navigating-a-museum-style and instead of a feedback notebook, we had a PowerPoint presentation that was our 'museum guidebook' where we would do work and get feedback. We went over a lot of information in this class and it made it very easy and fun to navigate.
Electronic Assessment for Teaching and Learning
Alison Keller
This course challenged me a lot. As someone who doesn't directly teach or assess students I had to really get creative with how I could assess my students. I ended up embracing how out of my comfort zone it was for me and decided to just try new things. I ended up coming up with a lot of different ways to assess my students and how to think about what I do with keeping assessment in mind. I have continued to look for ways to assess my students, my processes, and more.
Approaches to Educational Research
Dr. Cary Roseth
I took this course during my last semester of my MAET program. I was nervous, because I have always struggled in the past with finding reliable or helpful research articles and journals. This course showed me how to affectively research. I came to feel more comfortable conducting research and I learned the correct way to do so without bias or immorality. I learned that research methods are much much more than just finding articles online and citing them.
Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education
Edie Erickson
In this course I learned so much about fair use of media, and how to correctly use creative commons. I got comfortable making digital media like videos and blog posts. I learned about constructionism and constructivism in this course and it shaped a lot of my projects throughout my semesters to follow. I think this is a great class to take at the beginning of the MAET program because it sets the stage for fair use. Citing sources is something I continue to do years later.
Adult Learning
Sara Mirza
This course focused on how adult learners are taught and learn different than children. I learned a lot about how motivation plays a big role in adult learning and learning in different types of settings with adults. I made a lot of videos, interviewed a collogue, and wrote a few papers in this class. It really pushed me to explore traditional ways of teaching and learning. I found that this course was a challenge for me because the format was so different than the MAET program. There was no built in way to track my progress and no chance of making corrections to make my work stronger after feedback.
Learning Technology through Design
Dr. Anne Heintz
This course was another favorite of mine. With my graphic design background I was so excited to begin the course. It wasn't design in the way I thought, but more about the process of designing learning experiences. We did a lot of drafting and planning and collaborated a lot with our classmates so it was a very interactive and in-depth course. I loved the way that Dr. Heintz used different means of technology to teach all while giving us examples of what we could do.
Teaching and Learning Online
Dr. Anne Heintz
This course taught me a lot about how to humanize online learning and how to make students feel comfortable and heard. This course gave me so many strategies that I still use in my everyday life. I have changed how I communicate virtually with my students and how I get to know them and let them get to know me. I have noticed the difference and the impact I have had on my students regarding my online communication and presence. I would recommend this course for anyone who will teach and online course.
Capstone Portfolio Course
Dr. Matthew Koehler
Megan Harris
Finally, my Capstone course was a class I took during my final semester. I totally overhauled my website I had been using during the program to become what you see today. We went module by module to create a full and purposeful website. I wanted my website to be easy to navigate and something educators can use as a resource. I am thankful for all of the help I received during this class as I feel it is preparing me for life after graduation in terms of marketing myself and continuing to better myself and my website.
