My Networked Learning Project - Acoustic Guitar

For as long as I have had access to a computer, I have been no stranger to learning things through online resources. My most recent project was crocheting cat coasters I saw on Pinterest. When I found out about the Networked Learning Project (NPL), where I needed to learn something through online resources, I decided I wanted to challenge myself with something different.

Music has been something that I’ve been interested in for a long time, and I have always wanted to learn how to play acoustic guitar. My learning goal for this project is to learn how to play a song. I have not decided which song yet, but hope to lock that down quickly.

In Unit 2, I read How People Learn: Brain, Mind, Experience and School, and in chapter one it discussed specific ways to “develop competence in an area of inquiry”. I know that using those skills such as starting with a deep foundation and organizing my knowledge will set me up for success. I also know that taking a metacognitive approach by defining and monitoring my progress with this project will be able to give myself the best possible start to reaching my goals and not only learning but understanding how to play acoustic guitar.

Researching on YouTube I found a video by Nena Shelvy called “How to Successfully Teach Yourself Guitar in 2022 - how I taught myself to play acoustic guitar”. A pro of this resource are that it's broken up in to categories, but a con is that it is a lot of information in only 21 minutes. I plan on keeping track of this resource and others on Google Keep. I am eager to begin this journey as I pick up my guitar on Saturday.
